PG&E Pilot UTTO’s VLocate® (Virtual Locate) Technology

Pacific Gas & Electric (www.pge.com) are piloting UTTO’s patented and advanced buried asset VLocate® relocate technology.

With over 100k miles of electric distribution lines and 50,000 miles of natural gas pipeline and with operations that stretch from Eureka in the north to Bakersfield in the south, and from the Pacific Ocean in the west to the Sierra Nevada, PG&E are continuously seeking safety and improvements to help manage their network operations.

VLocate® is an advanced Cloud to Field Worker application that guides the user to the selected target using advanced positioning technologies. The originally mapped asset’s position can be qualified using UTTO’s Locate Assurance™ platform so the buried asset’s true location can be trusted in the opaque, above surface world of mapping and relocation.

Initially VLocate will be complimentary to traditional locating methods but we believe once proven and accepted, the advantages over traditional locate and mark electromagnetic devices will gain momentum and change industry processes. Ease and speed of operation, minimal training, ability to share with excavators and the absence of interference from other buried utilities and the deadly potential for mis-locating will make VLocate a very compelling alternative.
